Il a débuté sa carrière en Formule 1 en 2019 chez Toro Rosso. En milieu de saison, il est passé chez Red Bull et est devenu le nouveau coéquipier de Max Verstappen. Albon a également couru pour l'équipe autrichienne en 2020, mais il était aussi loin derrière Verstappen que son prédécesseur Gasly ! Pour cette raison, Red Bull a décidé d'engager Sergio Pérez à la place de Alexander Albon pour 2021. En 2021, Albon a piloté des voitures GT3 en DTM, mais Red Bull a quand même trouvé un endroit pour qu'il revienne en F1. Il a signé avec Williams et, après avoir obtenu quelques bons résultats avec sa voiture pourtant peu compétitive, il a gagné une place pour cette année.
