Max Verstappen maakte zijn Formule 1-debuut in het seizoen van 2015 bij Toro Rosso, het juniorteam van Red Bull. Hij was toen pas 17 jaar oud en had voor zijn overstap naar de Formule 1 nog maar één seizoen achter het stuur van een monoposto gezeten. Hij toonde zijn potentieel in zijn debuutseizoen en eindigde twee races als vierde. Na vier races van het seizoen 2016 stapte hij over naar Red Bull Racing en wist in Spanje zijn eerste race voor het team te winnen. Zijn grootste successen met Red Bull kwamen in 2021 en 2022, toen hij twee keer wereldkampioen werd.
