Hülkenberg is een soortgelijk geval als Magnussen. Ook hij leek voorgoed uit de F1 te verdwijnen. Na zijn vertrek bij Renault in 2019 verloor hij zijn vaste racebaan. Hij racete wel in de seizoenen 2020 en 2022, maar alleen als invaller voor Racing Point en Aston Martin. In 2023 keert hij definitief terug, als vervanger van Mick Schumacher bij Haas. Hij zal dan onder meer proberen zijn eerste.
