De tweevoudig wereldkampioen uit 2005 en 2006 gaat op 41-jarige leeftijd waarschijnlijk het laatste project van zijn carrière in. Na stints bij Minardi (2001), Renault (2003-2006, 2008-2009), McLaren (2007, 2015-2018), Ferrari (2010-2014) en Alpine (2021-2022) zal hij met Aston Martin proberen terug te keren in de schijnwerpers. Naast een legendarische F1-carrière heeft de Spanjaard twee triomfen behaald in de 24 uur van Le Mans en start hij in de Indy 500 en Dakar Rally.
